Salvage the bones by Jesmyn Ward

Salvage the Bones - Jesmyn Ward

Ugh. What a disappointment. I read this book for my reading challenge thinking it was going to be good, considering it was a winner of the National Book Award but, thought the narrative was interesting enough to keep me reading, I hated the main protagonist from page one.

She was childish, selfish, and self centered. She wasn't a child anymore to be acting like a spoiled brat and was old enough to understand that her actions have consequences.

And don't let me start with the end. It felt too abrupt, too rushed. So i finished the book like there was some of the story missing.

Also the violence towards the animals in the book was not acceptable nor understandable, no matter how much the boy loved the dog and how hard their situation was.
