A girl and her books

I love books and I love reading. If you ever see me anywhere, you can bet I'll have a book with me.

El juego de Christopher by R.J. Palacio

Wonder. El juego de Christopher - R.J. Palacio

Another book in the Wonder universe. In this opportunity, the story expands telling us a little bit of christopher, Auggie's first friend.

Is a short book that shows written as "a day in the life", with the hour to hour but also with flashbacks that let us know more about Auggie and Christopher friendship.

It's a really fast read and, it may not be as good as Wonder, it has really good lessons to live by and keep in mind. It teach us not to take the people that care about us for granted.

A great book that kids, as well as adults, will enjoy.

Necropolis by Jordan L. Hawk

Necropolis - Jordan L. Hawk

I liked this one. It wasn't very Whyborne and Griffin centered, it was a Christine story and I like her so much, I loved to know more about her and see her character develop. You get to see there's more to her than being Whyborne "partner in crime"

The story the book tell us is very predictable, though. I knew from the start who was the villain in this book, but despite that, I really enjoyed the read, with its new characters, change of scenes and all the possibilities that give us plot wise.

Somebody Killed His Editor by Josh Lanyon

Somebody Killed His Editor - Josh Lanyon

For some reason, I thought I would enjoy this this a bit more. I like it and it was ok, but, for me, the story was all over the place.

The mystery was too much, too many possible culprits and you lose interest after a while.

The "love story" wasn't as interesting, so incomplete. We know something happened between them and it ended badly but very little is explained and when they do talk about it, it's like the reader is supposed to know something, but I don't know what.

I hope the next book explains more.

Random acts by Mia Kerick

Random Acts - Mia Kerick

The book was practically all fluff. Nothing much happens, I felt like the protagonists met and it was all rainbows and sunshine until one unfortunate event that takes place close to the end of the book. After that they have a couple of bad weeks, but they get through it pretty quickly.

I'm not saying I didn't like it, I did like it, it was an okay book, but I enjoy my stories with a little more of drama and angst if they are romances.

Here, I was feeling that there wasn't conflict it was all the same throughout the noel until the end, when you have that one conflict.

As I said, it was an ok book but is not my stye. If you enjoy pure fluff you're gonna love it, though.

Stormhaven by Jordan L. Hawk

Stormhaven - Jordan L. Hawk

This one was the most angsty/ feelings filled one and I LOVED IT.

There was the usual mystery to solve with the amazing Christine to help (whom I love, by the way because she's amazing and she's a complete badass) but i also loved that there was more to the story.

A lot of feelings and trouble they had to fix as a couple. I felt like there was character development and that makes me want to keep reading the story to know what else is coming their way. I liked it.

Threshold by Jordan L. Hawk

Threshold - Jordan L. Hawk

This one was a bit too supernatural for my taste and less interesting than the previous ones.

I don't feel like much happens in the story even if I know it does. I mean, there's plot, there's mystery, but it feels kind of lineal all the time. not interesting enough to catch my attention and keep me focused on the book.

It was well narrated, so it is enjoyable because of that at least.

Just business by Anna Zabo

Just Business - Anna Zabo

Though I did like it, I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous one. I felt like the plot of the story was forgotten for about 75% of the duration of the book and was replaced instead with lots and lots of bdsm scenes. And, if you know me, you will know I don't like books heavy on bdsm.

Luckily, by the end, the author seemed to remember what the book was about and focused on the plot the story was supposed to follow and it got interesting.

However, if you do enjoy bdsm a lot, you're going to like this book.

Eidolon by Jordan L. Hawk

Eidolon - Jordan L. Hawk

Pretty cute and short story to add to Percy and Griffin, it takes place between book 1 and 2 and it adds more information for the reader to know about their relation as a couple.

It was interesting to know more about them and to see how much they do care for each other, because it wasn't shown much in book one and, in book two we see them in an stable relationship.

Widdershins by Jordan L. Hawk

Widdershins - Jordan L. Hawk

I was reluctant to read this but I saw it everywhere, so I gave it a shot.

I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would. Especially considering that I don't like paranormal books so much.

Luckily, this wasn't like 100% full on werewolves, vampires and magicians. It was a new approach to the paranormal/supernatural and I really enjoyed it.

The Giver by Lois Lowry

The Giver - Lois Lowry, Ron Rifkin

I feel like I've read stories like this one over and over again.

Either way, it was well done and the pace was fast, but not too fast to feel like there was something missing. It was a good pace.

I enjoyed it very much, especially given the fact that the protagonist was a 12 year old kid. I think it was well done and developed.

I have a tiny problem with the ending though, it's too open for my liking. I thought it happened thomething that didn't.

Periodismo Cultural by Francisco Rodriguez Pastoriza

Periodismo Cultural - Francisco Rodriguez Pastoriza

A good book that explains the beginnings of the cultural journalism, its history, development and what includes the term "cultural journalism", its treatment in media and its influence on special events, people and society.

Even if the book was edited in Spain and, because of that, the book has every example about Cultural Journalism on that country, the general information, the "theoric" part and history is universal and is good to know more about the subject.

My roommate's a jock? well, crap! by Wade Kelly

My Roommate's a Jock? Well, Crap! - Wade Kelly

An ok book. not bad, but not memorable either. the trope is pretty common so it's nothing new. The writing was very simple so it didn't get my attention right away.

Some parts felt slow and boring and the characters were often pretty shallow.

Normal book to read/listen on a lazy day.

Stranger on the shore By Josh Lanyon

Stranger on the Shore - Josh Lanyon

One of the best mysteries written by Lanyon, even if the ending was very predictable since the beginning.

Still, the plot was good and was well executed. The pace was neither slow or fast. It was just as the story needed it to be.

I enjoyed Pierce and Brian interactions and development.

There were some things that either made no sense or were left unsaid and I wanted them to be explained, but above all it was a pretty good book, I liked it.

Girls at war by Chinua Achebe

Girls at War and Other Stories - Chinua Achebe

I read this book because I read "Things Fall Apart" and I really enjoyed it, so I thought I would like this one too, but I was so wrong. I didn't like it at all.

It is a short book of short stories but except for one or two, I thought they were one worse than the other.

I expected more of this book, but I ended up disappointed. It was slow, dense and uninteresting. The stories were downright boring.

Knave of broken hearts by Tara Lain

Knave of Broken Hearts (Love in Laguna) - Tara Lain

It started pretty uneventful and slow and continued that way until about the middle of the story, then it got really good.

Ken and Jimmy frustrated me so much but they made me suffer for them so much too. I just wanted them to step up and defend themselves. The martyr complex they had surprised me sometimes, but at the same time all the angst made my heart clench, and I LOVED IT.

I really enjoyed this book. I wanted more of it by the end. I liked it even more than the first in the series.

Jesse's diner by Cardeno C.

Jesse's Diner - Cardeno C.

I finally read the next book on the Hope series. It was short and pretty light to read.

Not much angs or drama at all, it's more like a little bit of pinning until everything clears up and gets better. After that little bump everything is all fluff and hapiness.
